The African Stars Of

America's Next Top Model premiered in May 2003 on UPN and it very quickly became one of the network's highest rated shows.

With supermodel Tyra Banks at the helm, the hit tv show launched the careers of several now-successful models and personalities including model and reality tv star Adrianne Curry, model and actress Eva Pigford and model and BET personality Toccara Jones.

This successful series has featured a number of models of African descent who brought with them a new and refreshing face to the modeling industry. Here are just a few of them...


Nnenna Agba

Ulunma Nnenna Agba was born in Houston Texas and raised in Nigeria. Nnenna is best known as one of the stand-out contestants on America's Next Top Model Cycle 6. Nnenna is also a chemist - she graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.A. in Chemistry in 2003.

One of the more successful ANTM alums, she has been featured in several magazines including True Love, Confidence Magazine, Time Out, Advantage,and Clam. She has also worked with top designers including Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Heatherette, and Chloe

Somali-Ethiopian model Fatima Siad

came to ANTM with a powerful story to tell and a chance to inspire others. She was a victim of female genital mutilation when she was seven years old and her two sisters were killed in Somalia's brutal civil war.

Fatima has persevered through all her trauma and has since become a popular model who has been featured in magazines like Ebony, Essence, CosmoGirl & Elle.

Camara Yaya Dacosta Johnson

is a talented Harlem-born model and actress who comes from a mixed Nigerian/Brazilian/Native American background. She was second place in the third cycle of the popular show which also featured notables like Toccara & Eva "The Diva" Pigford who won first place.

Yaya, who is a graduate of Brown University, is currently signed to Models 1 London and Ford Models. She has modeled for Target, Olay, CharmaineLouise, DJA Clothing Company, Venus Clothing, Isaac Mizrahi, Kohl's, Seven Magazine, Interview Magazine, Essence Magazine, Jewel Magazine, Marc Bouwer, Seda, Garnier Fructis, Lincoln Townhouse, Radioshack, and Sephora, amongst others.

As an actress, Yaya has acted in three major motion pictures, Take the Lead, Honeydripper and The Shanghai Hotel. She also acted in a TV movie called Racing for Time and starred on the hit soap opera All My Children.
